Cage the Elephant joined the prestigious lineup of Harrisburg University Presents performers on Monday night with an electrifying performance at Riverfront Park. Despite the show being rescheduled 3 times for various reasons, the whole city of Harrisburg showed up and matched the energy.
The night started with a group from Florida named Glove; they were a perfect match to set the vibe of the night, and get the crowd ready for Cage. They are relatively new, but have already been making quite a statement. Their opening set in Harrisburg was no exception. Their electric influences weaved into their pop-punk/rock foundation made for an incredible sound, as well as such an energetic stage presence.
Matt from Cage the Elephant entered the stage in a full sequin-space suit, building the suspense throughout the first song. Right off the bat. Matt’s animation on stage was unmatched, and he kept it up throughout the entire set. I have not seen this passionate of a performance since before COVID hit, and it has absolutely ranked up there in my top 5 favorite shows I have ever seen. Cage played an amazing setlist, with hits like Ain’t No Rest For the Wicked, Cold Cold Cold, Trouble, and Mess Around. Cage the Elephant is still one of the best acts in the alternative world, and they are absolutely worth catching at a live show.
Special thanks to Harrisburg University. Harrisburg University is the only nonprofit STEM-focused school between Philly and Pittsburgh, currently with just over seven thousand students. Within the past two years, Harrisburg University has worked (and succeeded) to bring some of the biggest names in music to the Central Pennsylvania area. Past acts have included PVRIS, Death Cab for Cutie, Earthgang, and The Struts; these shows were extremely well-attended and caught people’s attention. Over the course of the next few months, the Harrisburg University Concert Series continues with acts including: Misterwives, Bishop Briggs, Frank Turner, Dawes, Rodgrio y Gabriela, Bleachers, and Cold War Kids. Harrisburg University is reviving the live music scene in Harrisburg, and these shows are just the beginning.
